Biography
Niamh Graduated in 2002 from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin with a Bachelor of Art in Printed Textile design, she went to work in London for Circleline having previously impressed while there on work experience. During her time there Niamh created fun and exciting prints for a number of worldwide markets. From high street to high end the emphasis was on being different and unique; creating trends rather than slavishly following the trends of others. There she sold prints to Christian Dior, Diana Von Firstenburg, DKNY, Zara, Topshop, H&M, Antropologie and many more.
Taking inspiration from anywhere and everywhere Niamh is constantly on the lookout for new ideas. As well as visiting galleries and current exhibitions a keen sense of travel means inspiration can be found in the strangest places. Having taken a year out in 2006 and Niamh’s designs on her return have been greatly influenced by the countries she visited and the fabric she sourced from afar as South America, South East Asia and India.
Just as her travels show open mindedness so does Niamh’s approach to her work. Boundaries are there to be pushed and experimenting is at the heart of what drives the progression of her work. Described as spontaneous, fresh and colourful with an emphasis on the avant garde there can be no doubt that Niamh’s work is diverse whilst maintaining coherence.
Niamh worked for Paul Smith for 2 years and now works as a freelance designer for Topshop. There she designs exciting, interesting prints for womenswear and accessories. Working for such big companies gives Niamh the chance to see her prints go from the developing stages right through to the final garment. She works closely with the fashion team to build a strong collection every season.
Working freelance gives Niamh the opportunity and freedom to work on her own label ‘LittleRedTreacle’ and explore ideas which were not possible whilst working in a studio.
